Q. What are the billing and insurance policies?
A. Brown Urology Inc. participates in most major health insurance plans including Blue Cross, Medicaid, Medicare, United Health Plan and many commercial insurance plans. If we do not participate in a particular plan, we will accept payment of our customary fees and provide you with a receipt for your insurance claim reimbursement. If you do not have health insurance or the specific service provided is not a covered service, we can make payment arrangements. Some insurance plans require a referral from your primary care provider, pre-authorization of surgical procedures, and payment of deductibles, coinsurance or co-payments. We are contractually obligated to adhere to these administrative requirements and will advise you of the specific requirements of your insurance plan.

Q. What are your office hours?
A. Our office hours are 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. However, we are closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Victory Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Q. How do I reschedule or cancel an appointment?
A. Usually you must give us 48 hours notice so that we may allow other patients the opportunity to take your appointment and, if necessary, reschedule your visit. However, it is most courteous to call as soon as you realize you must reschedule or cancel. Please try to be on time for your appointment. If you are running late, call ahead and let the office know your estimated time of arrival.

Q. How can I prepare for my appointment?
A. Please assist us by remembering to bring the following to your appointment:

  • Referral form (for HMO insurance, if required).
  • Insurance cards and a means of identification such as a driver’s license.
  • List of current medications you are taking including prescriptions, over the counter medications, and any herbs.
  • Relevant information about your medical and surgical history. Bring any pertinent x-rays or records you may have.
  • Important questions you would like to ask the doctor.

Q. How do I obtain a refill of my prescriptions?
A. Please call your pharmacy for prescription refills if your pharmacy is unable to assist you with your request  you may call the office and will be prompted for the following:

  • Your name
  • A daytime telephone number with area code
  • The provider who prescribes your medication
  • Your birth date
  • The name and spelling of the medication
  • The approximate number of doses you have left
  • The Pharmacy name and phone number with area code

It is helpful to have the actual prescription bottle handy when you call our prescription line. If you have only a few pills remaining, please indicate that the request is urgent when asked how many doses you have left. It is much better to contact our office before the situation is urgent to give ample time to consult with your provider if necessary. Please allow 1 to 3 days for routine prescription refills and 24 hours for urgent requests. You will receive a confirmation phone call when your prescription has been filled or called to your pharmacy.
